Sustainable tourism needs ecosystem accounting

TOURISM, which has been experiencing a comeback after the pandemic, needs environmental management to be sustainable. Real-time, concrete monitoring of sustainability and addressing present and future problems in turn need an awareness and implementation of ecosystem accounting, which constantly measures the conditions of the various biodiverse communities in a location. Nilo Tamoria, regional executive director of the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), pointed this out in the recent First Regional Edutourism Congress organized by the Laguna State Polytechnic University (LSPU) and the Commission on Higher Education International Affairs.

Deployable Mushroom Growing House as Complementary Technology to Enhance Livelihood and Food Security.

The project is aimed at producing an automated mushroom growing house that will generate a monthly income of at least PhP 12,000.00. This will also support food and nutrition security and poverty alleviation program of the country. It is made up of a 3.6 m x 8.4m container van-type, installed with automated sprinkler system, humidifier, artificial light and insulation. The DOST-CALABARZON envisions to expand the farmer's facilities by designing and fabricating a deployable mushroom house.
